**Happy Birthday to The Eclectic Garden of Funky Home Furnishings!
We started in business on June 1, 2000!

Who is “The Eclectic Garden of Funky Home Furnishings”?

We are JOYCE, the mother (a longtime, local vocalist & real estate business woman)….
LIZ, the older daughter (the head buyer, designer & queen of style)….
& CHRISSY, the younger daughter (mistress of paperwork & marketing)…..

We chose the name “The Eclectic Garden” in 1998, because we were setting up our first “store” in a permanent space indoors at the NC State Flea Market at the NC State Fairgrounds. To decorate our space, which consisted solely of Joyce’s hand-painted furniture, we made the 16 x 20 area look like a GARDEN. White picket fence enclosed the space, ivy & greenery hung everywhere and green carpet softened the floors. The items for sale ranged from good, used furniture to repainted pieces, and small collectibles and odds & ends were scattered throughout. Thus, we were “eclectic” and it looked as if you were stepping into a “garden.” So we deemed ourself “The Eclectic Garden.”

In June 2000, we leased a 2600 sf free-standing building at 5221 Hillsborough Street, near the Fairgrounds. For four years, we learned the craft of maintaining a store, recruiting local artisans to enhance the consignment section of our store and Joyce perfected the art and labor of painting good used furniture into modern masterpieces for your home! We also tackled birthing 4 baby boys (Liz had 2 and Chrissy had 2) and recovering from 2 episodes of Lymphoma (Joyce is amazing!). Ready to be our own landlord, we purchased our own building on 1.5 acres at 1932 Wake Forest Road in January of 2004. Joyce’s lifelong real estate knowledge & side income made from rehabilitating houses enabled her to turn a run-down old pawn shop into this amazing, purple boutique! Today, we are all joyfully promoting our revised & improved business proudly called “THE ELECTIC GARDEN of FUNKY HOME FURNISHINGS.” Please come see what we have to offer!
